Los Angeles-based community organizations are preparing to celebrate the 13th Annual Immigrant Day. On Monday May 18th, 2009, immigrants and advocates will head to Sacramento to raise their voices in support of immigrant families and communities across California.   Participants will discuss the need to maintain essential state programs for immigrants.

Groups recently participated in an all day advocacy training held at the ACLU of Southern California. The training included mock legislative visits and an opportunity to develop policy initiative plans.

APALC’s Immigrant Rights Project staff will lead a delegation to Sacramento to participate in Immigrant Day activities which will include a press conference and visits with legislative offices. PALS for Health, South Asian Network,  API Older Adults Taskforce, United Cambodian Community, and the Tongan Community Service Center will all send representatives to participate in the delegation.

Immigrant Day is sponsored by the California Immigrant Policy Center, a partnership of the Asian Pacific American Legal Center, the Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights of Los Angeles, the National Immigration Law Center and Services, Immigrant Rights and Education Network in San Jose.
